From February 25th-26th, 2014 Drs. Alexandru Coman and Greg Gray convened in Bethesda, Maryland to report on the One Health Center research activities to officials from the Fogarty International Center. The meetings involved multiple, themed panel presentations, followed by group discussion, and a separate poster session.

Dr. Coman used the panel session to review information on the One Health Center stationed at Babes-Bolyai University (BBU), Romania, current collaborations, and ongoing research activities. He first presented background information regarding the broad scope of programs and expertise offered at BBU, and how the diversity of these programs can foster ideas and provide expertise for One Health research.  He described BBU’s departments of policy, trauma and injury research, minority international research and environmental and occupational health.  Dr. Coman further described the unique approach that the One Health Initiative provides to address emerging health issues in Southeastern Europe and West Central Asia. Thereafter, Dr. Coman presented the ongoing collaborations and meetings between the One Health Center of and its partners across eight countries from 27 institutions. His talk wrapped up with an overview of how the One Health Center completed a Health Needs Assessment (HNA) in the seven partner countries, specific environmental health issues identified from the HNA, coupled with keys to building and maintaining successful, international partnerships.
